Stray Dog Strength – 20 Years In The Game
With the rise of COVID, we saw an insane amount of companies geared towards the home gym scene pop up. Companies who thought they’d bring something new to the scene, or maybe just grab a quick buck. Many have since disappeared, to fade into the history of home gym equipment importers and manufacturers. At the top of the mountain are a few companies. They have been around long enough to pioneer game changing items for strength athletes and home gym lifters alike. Stray Dog Strength has been in the strength game for over 20 years. Outfitting commercial facilities, high schools, colleges, and more. Building some of the BEST options on the market, and bringing nothing but the most innovative and highest quality products they can. And this includes for the home gym!
Stray Dog Strength History
They literally pioneered the concept of the power rack that we use today. Racks weren’t used to BOTH squat and bench in at once. So you can toss them a thank you. This innovation has made it possible for others to break into the scene. Without the power rack, would the garage gym even exist?
Matt Purdy, the owner, began working in the industry in 1990. He formed his first company, The Equipment Guys, in 1996. Stray Dog Strength was created in 1998 with the birth of the Power Rack concept. One rack where you can squat and bench from. Over the next 15 years they add staff, make machines, build out there custom options, fill out schools and colleges with strength equipment, and more.
Stray Dog Strength Present
Stray Dog Strength has recently moved into the home gym arena. Not by changing their plans or dropping quality, but by bringing what made them successful in the commercial outfitting space, and applying that to the home gym. Space saving options, multi-functional pieces, rack attachments, cable options, and more. Everything has a HUGE bang for your buck, so you know you’ll be getting the piece you need that will last for a lifetime. This also means you’ll be saving some cash along the way.
You’ve probably seen Stray Dog Strength pieces show up in a number of home gyms, from Garage Gym Lab, to Basement Brandon, The KurtLocker, Coach Carp, and many more.
Stray Dog Accessories
What might be one of the coolest things from Stray Dog, is the fact that they keep popping out cool add ons and quick hit items. Collars, magnetic hitch pins, their Nunchuck handles, or even the Cable Connectors which can be used with the nunchucks or to combine a functional trainer into one cable. And they are ALWAYS thinking about the little things. Take a look at the cable connections, those extra pieces are for storage. No one else thinks about this stuff like Stray Dog does.
The GOAT & Alpha Arms
You simply can NOT talk about Stray Dog Strength without talking about The GOAT. In the simplest of terms, we have a short, adjustable lever arm. This means it moves easily, adjusts easily, can be used to set up step ups, leg extensions, leg curls, standing leg curls, even for atlas stone loading. It will fit 1″ or 5/8″ hole sizes as well, and comes in at a STUPIDLY low price compared to any other option I’ve seen.
Want a more conventional jammer arm option? The Alpha Arms adjust up and down the rack with bearings, and the arm itself can be adjusted so you have options for free motion, converging, or locked tight motion paths.
The Alpha Bench & Stitched Wear Cover
A big bang for Stray Dog Strength was their benches. The Alpha Bench in particular, is a BEAST of a bench with all the fixings. Knurled handles, firm pads, contrast colors, clear angles, and it even has space for some potential attachments on the back end.
Don’t have the coin for an Alpha? You can turn your current bench into a custom piece with the Stitched Wear Cover. They take your logo and make it happen! This makes your bench live longer, AND gives it a professional custom feel, no matter what brand you are repping.
Low Beam Storage
I’ve created a custom storage solution for myself over the years that was (and still is) kind of a pain to maintain. It was out of necessity. They Stray Dog came along and made something VERY close, but WAY more practical and professional. Their Low Beam Storage has so many options from barbell applications, to nick nacks, landmines, various rack add ons and more.
GGC Sponsorship
This is just the tip of the iceberg with Stray Dog Strength. Their current offerings continue to expand as they have a list of awesome stuff on the way. So stay tuned, and keep your pocket books ready.
They are back to sponsor the 2023 Garage Gym Competition once again, tossing up a GOAT Attachments and Merch Pack for EACH event this year.
