Kroc Loadable Dumbbell from Kabuki
A few weeks ago we talked about how to solve the problem of 10lb jumps in dumbbells. But what about going heavy. Like, REALLY heavy. Like, stupid heavy on dumbbell rows where there is no way you own a dumbbell heavy enough. Well that is where the Kroc Loadable Dumbbell from Kabuki Strength comes in.
Dumbbell Collaboration For Gainz
Put together between Kabuki and Janae Kroc who is well know in the past for loading up several hundred pounds of plates on a steel pipe that was meant for skyscraper rebar, and heaving away at it. This helped Janae build a monster back and a stupid deadlift, and it is an exercise used and well regarded by the likes of Jim Wendler and others for building grip strength, back development, and just sheer intensity in the lift.
If you haven’t seen Kroc rows performed before, they are not a typical row. Loaded as heavy as possible, typically using body English and whatever forces you can muster, for stupidly high reps. We are talking sets of 20 with 250+lbs.
The Kabuki handle has been designed for this sole purpose. Not meant for bench, overhead press, or anything like that. I guess you COULD use it for a few other single arm type lifts, but really, we are talking about a single use item. Luckily it takes up little space, and MUCH less than owning the right number of dumbbells would. You can use your Olympic plates (though you might want to snag some extra 10s).
The price aligns with Kabuki’s typical high end, high quality, high attention to detail items, so don’t be shocked at the $200+ price point.
Loading
Your average 10lb plate is about 1 inch thick. So, a 10.5” sleeve gets you 10 plates per side, plus collars. With the bar weighing in at 20lbs, you got a solid ~225lbs of possibility. If you need more weight capacity, you could run out and grab a bunch of the Micro Gainz 10lb plates. These are ½ inch per plate. Now we are up to almost 450lbs of rowing goodness!
