Christian Ernst
Who’s writing some of these exquisite articles and also helping with the behind the curtain stuff of the GGC? Well, that would be me, Christian Ernst. I have been a participant and coach with the GGC since 2021. My passion for fitness and lifting weights started over 20 years ago when I was in my early teens. Being a kid who had always been morbidly obese, I wanted to start getting stronger. I had my first garage gym by age 14, investing in an adjustable bench/rack system and a 300lb olympic weight and barbell set. I have had the same weight set since then. I’ve done a little of everything from collegiate track and field and rugby to Crossfit to running a marathon and doing a long distance cycling ride. I started doing powerlifting around the time my son was born and have been training it in some way for the past 13 years making mistakes and learning from them. With over 20+ years of athletic experience along with being a full time stay at home dad, part time personal and group fitness trainer, and a part time beef cattle farmer, I’d like to think I bring a unique understanding and perspective to the lifelong benefits of strength and endurance training. My passion is to help others find a movement modality that bring them health and joy in movement.

My current training space is a 200 year old milkbarn, hence the birth of Milkbarn Athletics. Here I have a hodge podge of weight plates, bumper plates, power bars, a couple benches, a Bells of Steel adjustable KB, adjustable olympic db’s, and a 6 post Monster Rogue Rack with a rack attached belt squat. It’s dusty, non-insulated, rugged, and full of character. Everyone is welcome as long as you work hard, have fun, smile a little, and clean up.
