Pull Your Heart Out is our Fall 2022 Non-Profit!
We are mixing things up a bit for the Fall Competition. Every year we have had Special Olympics be our Non-Profit. That isn’t going anywhere. They will forever be our Spring GGC Non-Profit. But we decided with a new second event in 2022, to have a new fall non-profit. This will rotate every year to have a new fall non-profit to spread the love. If Pull Your Heart Out is new to you, lets dig in a little.
Who Is Pull Your Heart Out (PYHO)?
Pull Your Heart out was created with the belief that every person should have the opportunity to feel strong.
You may recognize Christina Leonatti (@big_c_smallz) and Manda Wolff (@bigbadwolff24) as repeat participants in the GGC. They are also two of the board of directors, with Christina being the President and Founder.
Their mission… To provide an educational mentorship program using strength sports as an outlet and deterrent to prevent disease, drug addiction, and violence within the at risk youth and underserved population. We create a community where people feel supported while achieving their goals.
Sound similar to the GGC’s mission? You bet!
PYHO takes donations in two different ways.
1) Cash – of course! We’ll be doing similar to the Spring event, for the Fall, raising funds for PYHO with some matching dollars coming from the GGC.
2) SWAP – This is unique, where they take your powerlifting gear and use it with their athletes. Got an extra belt collecting dust? Pair of wrist wraps or knee sleeves in the junk bin? Or maybe you would rather just send cool new stuff instead of cash? They’ll take it and put it to work!
I love what they are doing and what they hope to be able to accomplish in the future with this organization, and I’m happy to be able to support through the GGC.
New Fall Meet Shirt Design
I do the majority of the design work for the GGC (leveraging some services and skills I have), but love the concept of someone else tossing their hat in the ring.
For the Fall, my man Tyler Martina (@1984dude) designed our meet shirt with his tattoo artist skills and concepts aligning nicely to the PYHO logo and ideas.
I asked him to think about the GGC, make a design, and here we are! He competes alongside his daughter in the GGC every year, and wanted to toss his hat into giving back in some way.
Tyler runs Mr Inkwells Tattoo Shop, the highest rated most reviewed tattoo shop in Southern California. They make getting a tattoo as fun and painless as possible and also are very family friendly. They have 2 new locations opening soon, and their OG shop is in Los Alamitos, CA.
I love it!
Plan each year for the fall is to do something similar… new Non-Profit, new fall design from a community member for the shirts…

How’d We Do?
With the help of Pioneer and their generous donation of a custom PYHO branded belt, designed by @asabovedenver Tattoo design, we ran a drawing to raise funds. For every $5 donated, you had a shot at winning the belt. For every $1 donated in the SWAP program, you had a shot at winning the Topo Designs Mountain Duffel so you can travel, hit the gym, or just carry your pets around in style. Use it as a duffel or backpack, toss it, heave it, beat it up, it’ll come back for more. Chances are that the duffel will have some additional treats in it as well.
The Garage Gym Competition donated $1000 directly to Pull Your Heart Out. All of you donated an additional $1,695 for a grand total of $2,695… plus the $390 in SWAP Equipment.
