5 Ways To Customize Your Powerlifting Garage Gym
I’ve been lifting exclusively out of my garage since 2013. In that time I’ve seen literal thousands of garage gyms whether it is on Instagram or r/homegym. I’ve said for years that the single best part about a home gym, is the ability to make it your own – to customize it. Your own equipment, your own music, your own people, your own lifts… your own style! Let’s focus on that last one for today, customizing your garage gym to make it your own. Whether you have a custom color aesthetic, like some pop and creativity, have a logo you want plastered everywhere, or just want something off the shelf that makes you stand out. Today, we’ve got you covered.
#1 – Customize Your Mutant Metals Ultimate Dip Attachment and Snap Back Rollers
I own both of these. Both are absolutely top of the line products in the market. Both come at a price that matches that (don’t worry, the entire article isn’t expensive stuff). You can get this Dip Attachment and the Monos in any color combo you want, customizing the housing, UHMW color, and even choosing cerakote color options for the handles on the dip. Seriously, if you have a color scheme for your gym, this might be your ONLY option for a customized Dip attachment, and the Roller + Mono combo is a 1 of a kind option on the market that is sure to make your rack stand out amongst the crowd.
I even took my set a step further, and added some back-dropped red vinyl lettering for an extra POP of color, which you can 100% do to your bench, rack, and other areas of the gym too.
Check out the Ultimate Dip Attachment here and we did a write up on the Snap Backs here.
#2 – Plate Snacks
Ever seen gym equipment so pretty you wanted to eat it? If you’ve seen the stuff from Plate Snacks, you certainly would.
What started as a way to decorate the plain sides of a plate, has grown into much more. Plate designs are still their… bread and butter (see what I did there?)… but they make banners, rack magnets, barbell end caps, custom designed AbMats, shaker bottles, and even a barbell hanger. Most of these come in a staggering array of colors, designs, and options. Not good enough? Some of their stuff is even offered in 100% custom options so you can upload your own design, logo, or messaging to create a TRULY unique gym.
Oh, and you can use code ‘GGC’ to save you 10% on your journey to customize your gym.
#3 – Custom Deadlift Platform
Nothing says powerlifting gym like a deadlift platform. And not much stands out more than a really truly cleaned up, personalized, and just plain out pretty platform. The problem is that these typically are only offered to commercial gyms or require you to painstakingly trim, tape, paint, and apply paint in layers. The more intricate the design, the more likely you aren’t doing it yourself. Executive Fit took the commercial application and made it available to those of us at home. Leveraging technology to design, layer, cut, and trim the design, and some insane artistic abilities to lay down paint, epoxy, and make it all come together in an absolutely stunning way – this is how you customize a home gym!
He also makes some breathtaking custom items like barbell storage, wall decals, and more.

#4 – Custom Wall Storage
No shocker here, if you’ve seen my gym, or read any of my reviews on Wall Control over the years, you know I am a HUGE fan. Mine have held over 100lbs of chains on ONE board, alongside a huge collection of cable attachments, collars, straps, wraps, and more. The black board with the white hooks match my aesthetic PERFECTLY, and they offer their stuff in over a dozen off the shelf colors, different sizes, and more.
But what if you have a gym logo, or maybe a favorite sports team, or even have a photograph of the beach you love? Wall Control has partnered with Hangtime to make completely customized boards with legit anything you want. If you are buying the basic Wall Control set-up, check out my Wall Control Comprehensive Guide.
#5 – Custom Pioneer Belt
The only item here that you can wear, and will without a doubt increase your powerlifting total, is a good belt. And not just a GOOD belt, but YOUR very own CUSTOM belt. Pioneer has been making belts for literal decades, and their custom belts are absurd. Rainbow Python, Purple Python, Sparkle Belts, or black on black. There are a TON of custom font options, styles, materials, and more. And now you can get a sweet sweet discount on all the Pioneer goodness with code GGC (10% off).
Bonus #6 – DIY
The ultimate customization option… do it yourself! I’ve written articles and put up videos of how to refurbish, clean, and paint plates. This allows you to give your plates a custom look and feel to match any aesthetic you have. You can use my vinyl customization I mentioned above to add a back drop of color to a TON of items like benches, racks, and storage.
I’ve seen a ton of people add LED lighting for some cool dance party effects.
My guys Brandon Campbell and Danny Tran are infamous for their ability to fully customize every last detail of their gyms. Both have made numerous hacks and tweaks to grips, logos, and more to match their aesthetic.
You can paint your walls or do some custom powder coating like Efren with his GOLD. I also recently painted my spotters and j-cups to match my new aesthetic! You can add stickers and logos to your rack like Darkolifts, or dig into any of the crazy custom DIY projects shared by Kaizen DIY.
The customization options in the DIY realm are really limited by your imagination, tools, and time.
