Weight It Out – The Plates That Check All The Boxes
I have called myself a certified plate snob for years. Back in 2016 I caught the bug and started searching for a matching set of plates. I was working with the bargain bin cheapos off Craigslist and they just weren’t doing it for me anymore. They were aesthetically messed up. And I had just learned that all weights aren’t created equal. Some of my plates had rough edges, fit poorly, they just sucked. Back then there wasn’t many options on the market for plates that weren’t basic imported iron, or bumper plates. So I went the vintage weight direction. But today… if I was in the same spot, looking for a set of plates to fill out my gym… I’d have a hard time picking anything but Weight It Out Plates.
The Plates That Check All The Boxes
A good plate should have at least a few characteristics that make it stand out and make it worthy of your gym.
I’m a big fan of American made where possible. Ton’s of reasons to support that, but the simplest is putting money on the table of a hard working dude who you can have a conversation with. Brian runs Weight It Out and is just a genuine dude looking to make cool and unique stuff for the lifting world.
I also like my plates to be fairly accurate. I’m not expecting pinpoint calibrated accuracy, but when I load a 45 I’d like it to be somewhere in the ballpark of a 45lb plate. Weight It Out plates are accurate within 1% which is INSANE.
Then you have features like hand holds that make grabbing, moving, and loading plates easier. Not to mention they often open the door to new options for exercises. Check!
Add in how thick the plates are, and you can start to look at storage options, how much you can load on a single bar or machine, and more. I love my plates, but I’ve had to add 100lb plates and a pair of Weight It Out plates to be able to fit enough on one of my bars. That isn’t a thing with Weight It Out, just 3/4″ thick for a 45lb plate.
Aesthetics
And then aesthetics. I like something unique. Not crazy, just a little flair. A little pop. A little “that’s mine!”. The Weight It Out plates are unique enough to stand out, but not SO much that they are jarring in a gym.
Looking for a full custom option? Get them engraved, slap some Plate Snacks on em, or get em in steel or cast iron.
Most plates today will hit one or two of those items. MAYBE three if you spring for the high end items. Weight It Out plates actually hit em all. And when you factor in Free Shipping, the price for these is outrageous. Plates, especially a full set, can get VERY pricey to ship.
