2022 Summer miniGGC
The Mini GGC… where we take what you love about the #garagegymcompetition , and apply it to something else random and fun. Our 2022 Summer MiniGGC events have come and gone, with great success. I’ve had this idea in my head for a few years now, but talking to @vintageweightspgh and @bakkersgym about their ideas finally solidified that I needed to pull the trigger.
With the two events over, it is time to share some results.
Dunk Competition
The Dunk Competition was our first foray into NON lifting events. I had no clue how this would go, but we had some fun with it.
You had our friend Christina using the bench to support her dunk (bum knee) while the doggo watched.
Our big man from the Spring 2022 Mark Slam Dunked a 282lbs Atlas Stone for the Grand Prize win!
@josh.max had arguably the CLEANEST dunks of any submission. Supersetted with deadlifts no less, and he even progressively overloaded with Micro Gainz!
@shawnmichaeltrevino legit DESTROYED his kids Mini Hoop with an atlas stone dunk that he even painted the stone to look like a basketball! Epic!
@waffleirongym had this graceful AF dunk…
And @dadshredded killed it with these high flying moves.
And crushing a leg day with some dunks is @palisadestrength
Grip Competition
We had 118 athletes participate, with just shy of 7,000 KGs lifted. Everything from weights on bars, to kids, to dogs, to shaker bottles attached to cables, to bizarre and unique and awesome grip implements were lifted. In typical GGC fashion, people made it their own and had fun with it. Kids got involved, families tried something new, people challenged themselves and expanded their horizons… or just had fun sharing their passion of grip training with others.
The largest lift was done by @avastyematey with a 330lb lift that included lifting his friend. The lightest lift was from Zachary, the son of @thedaveschwartz, who lifted his 1kg Robotic Cat.
Some of my favorite lifts included the Kapakoulak, the loaded keg, the Napalm Nightmare, this overtly sexual submission, the bassets, and this one submitted as “huge ass 9 year old daughter”.
Of the 118 submissions, 38 did NOT compete in the Spring 2022 GGC. Welcome new friends!
Many mentioned how much harder the 20 second hold was than they thought it would be. Holding a 5 rep deadlift with two hands can be nothing compared to a max single arm hold for time.
I personally loved watching everything from creative holds, to maximal holds, to kids being lifted, to kids lifting…
